UEFA have handed Milan’s Gennaro Gattuso a four-match ban for his actions in the Champions League encounter against Tottenham Hotspur last week at San Siro.
Gattuso was charged with ‘gross unsporting conduct’ after head-butting Tottenham assistant Joe Jordan at the end of the Round of 16 encounter.
The 33-year-old midfielder had already been booked during the game and was set to miss the return-leg at White Hart Lane, meaning that he will effectively now sit out the next five European matches.
He would not be able to play in the tournament again this season unless Milan reach the final. Otherwise, his punishment will carry over to 2011-12.
Despite an apology from the former Rangers and Salernitana man, when he admitted he “lost control,” the press have heavily covered the incident with both condemnation and sympathy pouring in for Gattuso.
